You Sit Down All Day

Work has been hell on earth. I am now on day eleven of work. I have never worked eleven straight days in my life. I'm almost used to this zombie-like trance I'm in. I blast my music when I'm in the car to stay alert. I left the other night at 8pm, although I'm supposed to get off at 4:30 and of course my coworker commented on how I was leaving before the group. I want to point out though, that this same coworker comes in at 9:30, so technically, she should stay later than I do anyway.

I was talkin to Teddy yesterday morning and I yawned as he asked me how I was doing. I replied that I was alright, but exhausted. He then went on to ask me why and I went in on him. I decided to reiterate to him that working so many days in a row takes a lot out of you. The next five words that came out of his mouth were like profanity, "you sit down all day." I went off on him, I wanted to say even more than I did but I had to talk myself down. He went on to say that it's not physical like his job. I yelled at him challenging him to tell me that my job wasn't mentally draining, who cares if I sit down in a chair?

I guess he got the point because he backed down from the conversation. I have always been annoyed by folks who comment on those ofo us with desk jobs, like we do nothing. Sometimes I wish I had a job that I didn't have to really use my mind much to get through the day. I hope for Teddy's sake that he never, ever, ever, says anything like that to me again.

Face. I dated a guy like that... you see it didn't last. I'm not saying it won't last with you but it'd be nice if he had some understanding of what you did.

I think guys figure because it's not physical per se that its not challenging. Brain work is challeging and exhausting.

I had that conversation before. Once I explained what I did, I even showed my dude an Excel spread sheet of a budget and a Powerpoint presentation that I put together then asked can you do this? He seemed to get it after that.

I hope for his sake he gets it!LOL!

Yea...eff that! Who cares if you sit down all day...wtf?
Why do people comment on other people's work ethic? Pay attention to your own shit. OOOOHH WEEEEE!!!

Hope you get a break soon, love.

Jameil-It seemed like he caught on with that conversation.

GP-I think I'll pull up some work I do when I see him tomorrow so he can catch a glimpse.

Honey-What is it with these guys?! Can't live with them, can't live without them.

OMG...I hate that. quite honestly, i used to go to my labor intensive job after my mentally intensive job, and guess which one took more out of me each day? the worst thing about office jobs is that you can't even just leave them at work. people who don't do it don't usually understand. but i can even tell when i've had a particularly hard "thinking" day at work cause i get home and just want to sleep.

just ignore his comment. you probably can't convince him, but hopefully he won't bring it up anymore.

YW-It's such a surprise that so many of us have experienced this. I wonder if men who work office jobs catch a lot of flack too?

Working with the mind takes way more energy and focus than working with the hands.

I'm sure you set him straight, and he won't make that mistake again.

I always hated for Chief to say ish like that because his job was a little more physical but now that he's changed jobs, he gets what I'm talking about..he comes home exhausted now too!

that's such BS for Teddy to day that. He probably WONT be saying anything liekt hat again. just show/tell him the details of what you actually do then he'll understand--maybe
